Distributed Storage for Island Microgrids

Resilient electricity systems are essential for islands and remote communities where fuel logistics, network constraints, and weather exposure can make conventional supply costly and fragile.

Project premise

This incubation project explores how distributed batteries, local generation, forecasting, and dispatch rules can be combined to improve reliability while reducing dependence on imported fuels. The research compares technical configurations with operating realities across archipelagic Asia rather than assuming that a single microgrid model fits every location.

Eolais incubation role

Eolais frames the research problem, brings together energy, finance, climate, and community perspectives, and develops an evidence-based decision framework for evaluating storage pathways. The output helps partners distinguish technically interesting solutions from those that are operationally and economically credible.
